# Cline Setup

> Connect Dashtray to Cline via MCP

# Cline Integration

Get notifications from Cline directly to your phone while it runs automations.

## Prerequisites

* Cline installed (VS Code extension or standalone)
* Dashtray account with API key
* API key copied (don't lose it!)

## Step 1: Get Your API Key

1. Go to [Dashtray Dashboard](https://web.dashtray.app/settings/api-keys)
2. Generate a new API key named "Cline"
3. Copy the full key immediately

Example: `sk_test_a1b2c3d4e5f67890a1b2c3d4e5f67890a1b2c3d4e5f67890`

## Step 2: Configure Cline

Add the Dashtray MCP server to your project's `.cline/config.json`:

Then restart Cline.

## Step 3: Test the Integration

Ask Cline to send a test notification:

```
Send me a notification saying "Cline is connected to Dashtray!"
```

You should see a notification on your device within seconds.

## Using the Tool

Once connected, Cline can send notifications during automation:

* "Send me a notification when this task finishes"
* "Notify me at each deployment stage"
* "Let me know if the tests fail"

## Troubleshooting

**Tool not showing up in Cline?**

* Verify Node 18+ is installed (`node --version`) — `npx` needs it to fetch the server
* Restart Cline completely
* Check Cline's MCP logs for errors

**Notifications not arriving?**

* Verify the API key in the configuration
* Check that the Dashtray app is installed and logged in
* Ensure notifications are enabled in your device settings
