# Cursor Setup

> Connect Dashtray to Cursor via MCP

# Cursor Integration

Get notifications from Cursor directly to your phone — build results, deploy
status, agent progress — while it works in your editor.

## Prerequisites

* Cursor installed
* Dashtray account with API key
* API key copied (don't lose it!)

## Step 1: Get Your API Key

1. Go to [Dashtray Dashboard](https://web.dashtray.app/settings/api-keys)
2. Generate a new API key named "Cursor"
3. Copy the full key immediately — you won't see it again

## Step 2: Configure Cursor

Open **Cursor Settings → MCP** (or edit `~/.cursor/mcp.json` directly) and
add:

Paste your full API key. Save, then hit **Refresh** in the MCP settings
panel — Dashtray should show a green dot.

  Node 18+ is required (`node --version` to check).

## Step 3: Test the Integration

Ask Cursor's agent:

Send me a Dashtray notification saying "Cursor is connected!"
```

You should see `MCP - Cursor is connected!` on your phone within seconds,
and the send logged in your Dashtray history.

## Troubleshooting

* **Server shows red / won't start** — run `npx -y @dashtray/mcp-server` in
  a terminal. The stderr output tells you what's wrong (most often a missing
  `DASHTRAY_API_KEY`).
* **"Invalid API key"** — the key was copied partially or revoked. Create a
  fresh one and update the config.
* **Notifications not arriving** — check the alert exists and is active in
  your Dashtray app, and that you're under your plan's rate limit.
