Dashtray is a notification platform that lets you send rich, real-time notifications from your backend, automation tools, and AI agents to your devices (iOS, Android, Web). ### Who is Dashtray for? * 🤖 AI agents (Claude, Cline) that need to communicate with you * 🤖 Automation tools and scripts that need status updates * 👨‍💻 Developers who want simple, reliable notifications * 🏢 Teams building notification-driven workflows ### How do I get started? 1. Sign up at [web.dashtray.app](https://web.dashtray.app) 2. Download the app (iOS/Android) 3. Generate an API key 4. Send your first notification See the [Quickstart](/quickstart) for a 5-minute guide. ### Is Dashtray free? Yes! The Starter plan includes unlimited notifications. Paid plans start at \$9/month. *** ## Technical ### What's the API base URL? ``` https://api.dashtray.app ``` All endpoints start with `/api/v1/`. ### How do I authenticate? Use your API key in the `Authorization` header: ```bash theme={null} Authorization: Bearer sk_test_... ``` See [Authentication](/authentication) for details. ### What icons and colors are available? Icons and colors are **alert-level settings** configured in the app (per alert: icon, color, sound, template). The REST API sends plain `title`/`body` — notifications are delivered using the settings of your preset. ### How fast are notifications delivered? Notifications are delivered in under 100ms typically. Varies by: * Device location * Network conditions * Server load ### Is there a webhook/callback? Not yet. We're planning webhooks for future releases. Follow [GitHub](https://github.com/bhupeshpradhan/dashtray) for updates. *** ## Rate Limiting ### What's my rate limit? Depends on your plan (per API key, per minute): * **Starter:** 100 requests/minute * **Pro:** 1,000 requests/minute ### How do I know I'm rate limited? You'll get a `429 Too Many Requests` response with a `Retry-After: 60` header. ### How do I increase my limit? Upgrade your plan to get higher rate limits. Changes take effect immediately. ### Can I get a higher custom limit? Contact [support@dashtray.app](mailto:support@dashtray.app) for enterprise plans. *** ## API Keys ### How do I generate an API key? 1. Go to [Dashboard → Settings → API Keys](https://web.dashtray.app/settings/api-keys) 2. Click "Generate New Key" 3. Enter a name 4. Copy the full key (shown only once) ### Can I see my full API key again? No. API keys are only shown when created for security reasons. If you lose it, revoke and generate a new one. ### How many API keys can I have? Unlimited! We recommend one key per application/agent. ### What happens if my key is exposed? 1. Revoke it immediately in the dashboard 2. Generate a new key 3. Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard for AI agents to interact with external tools. Dashtray provides an MCP server so Claude and Cline can send notifications. ### How do I set up MCP? 1. Generate an API key 2. Configure your agent (Claude Desktop or Cline) 3. Pass your API key as an environment variable 4. Restart the agent See [MCP Integration](/integration/mcp) for step-by-step guides. ### Does Dashtray work with other agents? Yes! Any agent that supports MCP can use Dashtray. We have guides for: * Claude Desktop * Cline Others should work similarly. ### Can I use MCP and REST API together? Yes! You can use both in the same project. They share the same API key and rate limits. *** ## Troubleshooting ### I'm not receiving notifications **Check:** 1. ✅ App is installed and logged in 2. ✅ Notifications are enabled in device settings 3. ✅ API key is correct (starts with `sk_`) 4. ✅ Authorization header is formatted correctly Still having issues? Contact [support@dashtray.app](mailto:support@dashtray.app) ### I'm getting 401 Unauthorized **Check:** 1. ✅ API key format: `Bearer sk_test_...` 2. ✅ No typos in the key 3. ✅ Key hasn't been revoked 4. ✅ Using correct Authorization header ### I'm getting 429 Rate Limited You've exceeded your hourly request limit. Options: 1. Wait for the limit to reset (see `X-RateLimit-Reset` header) 2. Upgrade your plan for higher limits 3. Space out requests more ### My notifications are delayed Dashtray aims for under-100ms delivery. Delays can occur due to: * Device offline or in bad network * Large notification queue * Device battery saver mode * Network congestion Refreshing your notification settings usually helps. ### Can I delete my account? Yes! Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This will: * Delete all your data * Revoke all API keys * Cancel your subscription Contact support if you need help. *** ## Billing ### When will I be charged? Paid plans are charged monthly on the same day you upgrade. ### Can I cancel anytime? Yes! Cancel anytime from Settings → Billing. You won't be charged again. ### Do you offer refunds? We offer pro-rata refunds within 14 days of upgrade if you're unhappy. ### What payment methods do you accept? * Credit/Debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) * Stripe ### Can I get an invoice? Yes! Invoices are sent to your email each month and available in Settings → Billing. *** ## Privacy & Security ### Is my data encrypted? Yes! All data is encrypted: * **At rest:** AES-256 encryption * **In transit:** TLS 1.3 * **API keys:** One-way hashed with SHA-256 ### Who has access to my data? Only you. Yes! We're fully GDPR compliant and SOC 2 Type II certified. ### Where is my data stored? In EU-West-1 (Ireland) by default.
