MCP Integration

Dashtray works seamlessly with Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients like Claude Desktop and Cline.

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standardized way for AI agents to interact with external tools and services. Dashtray provides an MCP server that allows agents to send notifications directly from your workflows.

MCP Server Details

Server Name: dashtray (as registered in your client config) — the server identifies itself as dashtray v1.0.0 during the MCP handshake. Available Tools:
  • send_notification - Send notifications to your devices
Authentication: Requires Dashtray API key

Features

✅ Send notifications from Claude Desktop ✅ Integrate with Cline automation ✅ Custom agent support ✅ Real-time delivery

Quick Setup

  1. Generate an API key in your Dashtray dashboard
  2. Follow the guide for your agent:

Tool: send_notification

Send a notification to your device. Parameters:
  • title (string, required) - Notification title (1–200 chars, shown with an MCP - prefix in the app)
  • body (string, required) - Notification body/details (1–500 chars)
Both limits are enforced by the MCP server before the API call, so invalid input fails fast. Returns:
  • ok (boolean) - Whether the notification was sent
  • data (object) - Contains the created notification (id, title, body, createdAt)
